Officials participate in High-Level Meeting on the Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework

Convened by the President of the General Assembly, the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly on the Midterm Review of the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 take place from 18 to19 May 2023 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The meeting held on the theme “Raise global awareness and generate political will and momentum to integrate risk reduction in all decision-making, investment, and behavior in alignment with the Sendai Framework to reduce disaster risk and build resilience across sectors”, representatives of Government of Mongolia, the head of the National emergency management agency, Major-General G.Ariunbuyan and head of the risk management department and Secretary of the national council on disaster risk reduction colonel D.Baasansuren delegation led by the chairman of the Citizens’ representative khural, J.Batbayasgalan and head of the citizens’ representative khural office, B.Batbyamba are participating. 

In 2015 in Japan, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 was unanimously adopted by 193 member countries with seven targets and four priorities for action. Goals set up to 2030 within the framework of the program.

Despite the implementation, the major challenges to sustainable development include natural and man-made hazards, and public health risks such as epidemics, climate change, and global warming, desertification, and earthquake-related deaths, social-economic losses.

At this high-level meeting, the high-level representatives of 162 member countries will discuss the experience of implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, to reflect on the findings and recommendations for new initiatives that should be taken into action by the United Nations Organizations member countries until 2030.
